We were given the book All in All by B&H Publishing to help facilitate our review. All thoughts and opinions are based on our experience, they are honest and 100% ours.
The moment I knew I was pregnant with each of our kids I began praying they would come to have a deep relationship with Jesus. Not a try to be good and earn my way to heaven mentality, but a saved by grace, acknowledging their weakness and receiving the free gift of salvation He offers. As well as embracing the forgiveness and love he lavishes on us his children. This mentality only comes with time and experience. I want our kids to wrestle with questions and I want them to struggle because I want them to see the goodness of the Lord. I want their relationship with God the Father to be strengthened because they have experienced the peace and joy that comes through the struggling process. Producing endurance and perseverance in their life.
One of the ways their relationship with Jesus is strengthened is by mentors in their lives. People who have come into their lives who live out their life as Mark and I strive to do. This is one of the reasons we love our church family so much and the children’s ministry leaders and volunteers. They lead not only in words but by their actions inside and outside of the church.
Mentors also come into their lives through written form. The bible has been and remains one of my biggest mentors of all time. It is a classic near and dear to my heart. I also have been mentored by Elizabeth Elliot, Beth Moore, Priscilla Shirer and Charles Spurgeon. I desire to bring similar mentors into our kid’s lives. Journal devotionals are a wonderful way to inspire our them to get into the word. It also asks provoking questions to get them thinking about how God would ask them to respond to life’s trials and successes.
When I was introduced to the All in All Journaling Devotion for preteens and teens by Sophie Hudson. I knew I wanted to introduce it to Maddie. She has definitely hit the pre-teen stage and I want to make sure we are helping her through the emotional ups and downs. Giving her a place to process the world around her. She does not have to show me what she writes, but I do ask her what she is learning, what she got out of her time in her bible and how God is asking her to live out her life.
I am thankful for the Godly men and women he has been faithful to bring in our kid’s lives. People who love Jesus and live it out in their lives. Do your kids have a favorite version of the bible or a devotional they love?
